Why we use the CosmoPen
We use the CosmoPen, a pen-shaped device with a disposable 12-pin needle head that controls the depth and speed of the needles. The tiny channels it makes in the upper layers of the skin encourage new collagen and elastin through the body's own natural healing.

How many sessions will I need?
It depends on your skin and your goals. A series of 3-6 treatments, 4-6 weeks apart, is a common guideline, and deeper acne scars usually need more sessions than fine lines. After your series, maintenance treatments every 3-12 months help keep your results. We'll suggest a schedule at your consultation.
What to expect and downtime
- Thorough skin cleansing and preparation
- Numbing cream, if you like, to make the treatment more comfortable
- The microneedling treatment, with serums applied during the session
- Aftercare instructions for the following days
Your skin may look pink for 24-48 hours, a bit like a mild sunburn, with a little mild swelling. There may be minimal pin-point bleeding or bruising. A gentle concealer or mineral makeup can be used soon after to hide redness, and many clients book on a day without events.
Aftercare
- Avoid excessive heat (saunas, hot showers) for 12 hours
- Avoid the sun for 48 hours and wear SPF 30 full spectrum
- Keep the treated area moist
- Avoid scrubs, exfoliants and alpha or beta hydroxy acid products

Is microneedling painful?
Numbing cream can be applied before the treatment to make it more comfortable.
Can microneedling help with acne scars?
Improving the look of acne scars is one of the main reasons clients book microneedling. Results build over a series of treatments, and we'll tell you at your free consultation what to expect for your skin.
How do I prepare for microneedling?
Do not sunbathe for 4-5 days before, and do not use skin resurfacing products (Retin A, glycolic peels) for 14 days before. Remove perfume and makeup before the treatment, and try not to plan major events for 2-3 days after your first treatment.
Who should not have microneedling?
People who take contraindicated medications (steroids, hormone replacement therapy) or have contraindicated diseases (lupus, cancer, diabetes), anyone with a current skin infection, open wounds, cuts or abrasions, people who tend to form keloid scars, and anyone who has taken Accutane in the last six months. It is not done during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Please tell us about any skin conditions, medications or recent treatments when you book.
